The issue of the power that banks had in inflation and deflation of the economy, was one that certain leaders felt too corrupt. Andrew Jackson was among those leaders. He was a president who believed in a government ran by and dedicated to the people. His original plan while in office was to completely get rid of banks and the paper money but realized it was a hopeless attempt. His focused shifted temporarily to a constitutional problem that was threatening the union of the states, the issue of federal and state authority. The biggest problem came from South Carolina and this he dealt with by threatening those people with hanging if they continued with their plans of secession. He then returned his focus to the banks.(479words)
