My opinion is that the recommendations presented by the Institute of Medicine Report are essential for driving change in the nursing profession. I feel that the future of nursing is advanced as a result of the recommendations. For example, nursing shortages can be addressed by increasing the number of nurses with a baccalaureate degree. Also, eliminating the barriers to effective practice in the field will help overcome high turnover rates. It allows nurses to fully practice the skills, competencies and knowledge acquired learning. The profession will be fulfilling for nursing graduates that pursue leadership skills in their practice by uniting with other healthcare professionals.
