Many states are at a risk of losing their cultural identity as a result of globalization. The positive effects of globalization on cultural identity are mostly experienced by western countries who have the means to spread their culture to other nations, for example, through the internet, entertainment et cetera. Other countries such as China and Iran have taken deliberate steps to preserve their cultural identity by banning social media websites like Facebook, YouTube and so on. Through globalization, people can share their traditions, values, and beliefs through various channels like the internet, traveling and so on. These values are often transferred and shared among people of different origins. The existing fashion in clothing is an example of loss of cultural identity, where developing countries adopt western dress code and style (Hirst, Thompson & Bromley, 2015). Globalization has also caused a change in taste and preference regarding foods and drinks. Some states have abandoned their traditional cuisines and have made western dishes a favorite among them.
