Rape in wartime is a traumatic experience for the victims, including loss of dignity and harmful relationships. While previously considered an outcome of the war, it is now identified as a planned and targeted policy (Buss, 2009). In the 1994 genocide in Rwanda, rape was a war weapon for ethnic cleansing of the Tutsi community (TRT World, 2021, April 8). Similarly, in Bosnia-Herzegovina, large-scale cases of rape were ordered by the Serb leadership (Benard, 1994). Indeed, rape was an element of ethnic cleansing. In the Nanjing Massacre, the Japanese soldiers continued to stereotype the Chinese as a weaker ethnic group, and hence rape cases were not isolated.
