Intersectionality is a word and a movement that was coined in 1989 by Kimberlé Crenshaw. Crenshaw is a renowned scholar civil rights activist, a law professor, and a social theurgist. She wrote a paper for the University of Chicago Legal Firm in 1989 where she wrote about how the anti-racist and feminist ideas and policies were not applicable to the black women, and this made them be excluded from the society and many other opportunities like employment. She explained that black women face overwrapping discrimination that is unique to them compared to any other group in society (Crenshaw, 2016).
