Adolescents and children are more vulnerable to the harmful effect of cannabis since they are at a critical stage of brain development. The effect on academics is lower grades, absenteeism, dislike for school, and early school dropout. The drug harms the brain, such as impaired thinking, poor learning functioning, and memory leading to a loss of IQ, leading to poor academic attainment. Increased use causes dependence and psychosomatic problems, including depression, anxiety, sleep disorders, mental illness, suicidal ideation, compulsive behavior, and hostility (Stuyt, 2018). Therefore, it is evident that the legalization of cannabis has increased its prevalence among children and adults and has adverse effects on development, academic, and behavioral health.
