Literature Review Critique
I want you to help me with a new assignment which is literature review which has 6 articles I want you to group them such as what is the common idea between them and describe each ones examination. I grouped them already but I want you to critique them.
Here is the doctor comments on the assignment:
A literature map is a specialized kind of concept map.
It is a map or diagram that shows the relationships between 6 research studies.
It is the beginning of a ‘framework’ for your potential dissertation study.
It helps you identify where your study might fit it (you identify a gap in the literature).
It helps you explain WHY your study is necessary.
Writing a literature review involves syntopical reading which is complex and requires higher order thinking skills. Developing a literature map will help you perform effective syntopical reading.
Reread the chapter/handout given last class if necessary. Pay attention to figure 8.1, p. 63 (although your map will be more comprehensive). Notice that linking words or arrows were not used but if you find them helpful, then DO use linking words and arrows.
Write the overall topic on a post-it note. This will be at the top of your map.
Choose one or two words from each study’s title to write on a post-it note. On each post-it note, also include author(s) and year.
Decide on how to group your 6 studies. What is the ‘big idea’ that is common to several studies? Does any study need to stand alone? Write 1-3 words on post-it notes that reflect the ‘groupings’ of your 6 studies. This is the 2nd level of your literature map.
Write important details on post-it notes for each study—participants, design, purpose of study or problem, time frame, key findings or conclusions (who, what, why, when, how).
Arrange all the post-it notes so that they make logical sense, connect with lines/arrows and if you want, linking words. Now you’re ready to begin writing!
and the articles are attached.
