According to my experience, the leader enabled the black people to appreciate their heritage and attain their unique identity. The leader fostered the recognition and appreciation of the civil rights movements that started across many states in America during the 1950s, like the Black Power Movement and Black Arts Movements. I believe the election of the first Black American as the president of the US in 2008 adds towards Martin Luther King’s legacy. Although Martin Luther King succeeded in eradicating official racism and discrimination by the US government through nonviolent means, there are still isolated cases of discrimination in the private sector and racist acts committed against the African American racial group in the country.  I believe the leader should be mentioned with pride and respect for his nonviolent struggle towards racial equality, human dignity, and economic freedom.
