Martin Luther King was an American civil rights activist and American Christian who contributed immensely towards the attainment of civil rights by the black American population in the USA. Martin Luther is well known for his nonviolent and civil disobedience perspective that was inspired by the nonviolent activism of Mahatma Gandhi and Christian beliefs (King Jr, 1963). The leader set the tone of peaceful protests and disobedience in the 1950s and 1960s using various approaches such as bus boycotts, marches and protests the civil authorities across the country (King Jr, 1963). Although Martin Luther was later assassinated in 1968, his approach was effective since the country enacted the 1967 Civil Rights Act prohibiting racial discrimination in employment matters in the country.
