“Girl in Mirror”

Ana Mendieta “Untitled”

Answer preview

Ana Mendieta uses her own body to show feminism, therefore, bringing out the aspect of pop culture. She is able to blur the line between the male and the female identification. As seen from the image most of the front part of the body is covered up which makes it hard to identify the gender. The art shows that Ana had finally found a home in the Mother Nature despite having been homeless when she was young. The art also portrays acceptance of the cycle of death as well as death itself. The art shows the concerns that she had when it came to rootedness and belonging. The art uses modern technology, the only way that people are able to see land art is through photographs which are similar in this case. A photograph which is an example of modern art had to be taken of her in that state in order for people to share in the art.
