Available boats were very few, and therefore the process of saving victims of the flood was unusually slow. Survivors used the few buildings that were still standing firm and erect. They stood on top of them while waiting for help, Others died while waiting because of hunger and increasing cold. The tall and robust trees which had survived being swept away were full of people, both young and old who clang on the branches while desperately waiting for help. The saddest moment about the flood was when a family that had seen no chance of survival placed their baby on a floating piece of wood and made sure that he was well covered.
