One neurological issue is asthma. Johnson (2019) says that asthma is a condition characterized by bronchospasm and inflammation. The condition affects people of all ages, and people with the condition exhibit wheezing. The causes of asthma are not clear, but the disorder is related to inherited and environmental factors. Airborne allergens are one cause of asthma. Antigens like dust mites, pet dander, pollen, or pet dander are the leading causes of asthma. Another cause of asthma is respiratory infections. Infections such as the common cold that affects the respiratory system predisposes a person to the disease. Genetics also predisposes a person to asthma. A person with a blood relative who has had asthma has a high chance of suffering from the condition. Another risk factor is smoking. Active and passive smoking damages the lungs. It also irritates airways and makes them swollen and full of mucus leading to flare-ups.
