Like most people, I find it hard to engage with children, especially when conversations involve complex death or grief. One of the main reasons for this is that it is pretty difficult to find the right words to use and ensure that the child understands the message I am trying to pass across. Despite this, there are various strategies I can use to enhance my comfort levels. When discussing difficult topics, I will endeavor to remain child-centered (Knorr, 2020). What this means is that I will have to break down the topic to the child’s level of comprehension and avoid using complicated and abstract words, which might lead to confusion. Furthermore, I will also have to use real-world examples to ensure that the child understands the information I will be sharing (Knorr, 2020).
