Answer preview
Screenings are very helpful in disease prevention initiatives among elderly people. One of the screenings that are important for elderly persons is a blood pressure check. CDC report shows one in three adults have elevated blood pressure in the country, which, if not addressed, can result in hypertension. Hypertension is a “silent killer” disease since its symptoms are hard to detect until when it is late (Epstein & Turner, 2015). Another important threat screening is blood tests for lipids. Healthy triglyceride and cholesterol levels decrease elderly people’s risk of heart attack and stroke. In case there are high levels of healthy triglyceride and cholesterol, a health specialist may recommend an improved diet, lifestyle changes, or medication to reduce them. Another important screening in colorectal cancer exam is to evaluate any abnormal growth of tissue in the colon (Schoenborn, Lee, Pollack, Armacost, Dy, Bridges, & Boyd, 2017).
