According to McLeod (2007), obedience means complying with the orders given by the authorities. The ability to obey those in power is a social feature all humans possess. In religious texts, there are several instances where people displayed obedience to those in authority. Abraham, for example, obeyed God without question when he was told to slaughter his only son. We learn that he was blessed after that for heeding the instructions given by God. Authority is the ability to exercise the powers vested on you. Obedience and authority are dependent on each other. Where there is an authority, there has to be obedience. This paper is my reflection of the lessons I learned this week on obedience and authority.
