The trial proceedings began with stating the accusation against the defendant. He was accused of theft and intentionally causing injury which included recklessly cause harm and unlawful assault. However, the prosecution was required to choose one of the last three charges because they were all result of the same conduct. The final charges were, therefore, theft and intentionally cause injury. From the proceedings, I gathered that the more severe accusation was intentionally caused injury. The people present in the courtroom during the proceedings included the accused, magistrate, barrister, bench clerk, defense solicitor, the informant, prosecutor, and witnesses. The accused was the man to whom the criminal case was brought.

There were severe repercussions to flirting with white women. He was angry at the fact that the white man could mistreat the black woman but the black man was not allowed to do the same to white women. For this reason, he and other black men of the same thought pattern raped white women to defy the rules of the white man and the government. It was payback for years of been demeaned by the system and the society (Cleaver, 1965). The oppression of the black man was overwhelming to him, and he experienced a nervous breakdown where he went on and on…
