Password cracking is a common term in the area of computer security. This involves the process in which forgotten passwords are recovered, or crackers use unauthorized measures to access computer or network resources (Marechal, 2008). Some of the password cracking tools used includes Cain and Abel, ophcrack and John the Ripper. Password crackers may use the tools to hack encrypted passwords since the devices use algorithms for decrypting thus allowing the cracker to access the restricted files in a computer.
