Women had several rights to property ownership. Daughters could inherit the same amount of property as their brothers if no will were left. When a husband dies, the wife was expected to own the property left behind by the deceased and take care of the children. She was expected to pay taxes as the male landowners. Women were not supposed to perform judicial activities or important religious activities (Jordan, 2019). Religious activities were only permitted to the widows who were over forty years. These widows acted as deaconesses.
Although women were not treated equally with men in various aspects, they were treated equally when it came to the Christian faith. There was spiritual equality, and most of the saints were women. They didn’t have many leading opportunities in the church, but they could be marked as holly people who can inspire others.
