Another argument against wearing school uniforms is that it limits the students from expressing themselves. Teenagers are in a stage whereby they like to express their emotions through fashion, music, and hair. The presence of school uniforms limits the students from expressing themselves in a manner they want, and this stifles their creativity. In an advanced country like America where LGBTQs are recognized as part of the society, uniforms prevent students from expressing their sexuality through their dressing. Instead, they are forced to submit to authorities without question, and this can kill their self-expression. For instance, a student who does not identify as either male or female is forced to wear uniforms according to their physical, sexual identities, and not who they think they are. Additionally, students are forced to wear uniforms that they might be perceived as ugly because of the need to conform to the school norms. Since uniforms hinder self-expression, schools should not force students to wear them.
