Answer preview

My duty as an FNP requires me to provide high-quality, evidence-based care for patients. However, bridging the gap between theory and evidence-based understanding of pharmacological medicine has always been a challenge. Since I enrolled for the family nurse practitioner course, my application knowledge into pharmacology has greatly changed as I have learned that drugs interact differently in people and other medications. Since I started working in the psychiatric behavioral health clinic, I have gained different knowledge from my school learning. In my case, nurse practitioners gain knowledge from experiences during personal practices, referred to as know-how. Therefore, it has been difficult to transfer this knowledge as it is gained based on organizational culture. For nurses to be efficient in their work, they need to have a full pharmacology understanding of the drugs they administer in a specific health setting.
