This capstone project reflects my position on the core competencies of public health and the plans for improvement. The competencies define the foundational skills needed by professionals of public health across various fields of practice. Whether in the practice, in research or education these core competencies are highly valuable. The primary application for the capstone report is to enhance focusing the learning into the areas that would otherwise demand training. The skills or the competencies in this report are limited to tier 1(entry level) that requires public health professionals to focus on the day to day tasks excluding the management need.
The first domain is the analytical skills that enhance converting data into information that would facilitate action. This tier one skill enables a public health professional to make decisions based on evidence, especially on the community health needs. The second domain is policy development based on the advocacy for policies that would promote community health improvement plans (PHF, n.d.)….
