Answer preview

As a nurse, teamwork and competency are crucial component of practice. According to the Quality and Safety Education for Nursing (QSEN), teamwork and collaboration are critical for nursing practice because they enable caregivers to work effectively to enhance safety and quality care in healthcare. Also, professional collaboration and teamwork is essential for facilitating an efficient healthcare system. QSEN defines teamwork and collaboration competencies as the ability of nurses to function effectively through open communication, shared decision making, mutual respect, and trust in inter-professional groups (Preheim and Armstrong, Barton, 2017). Teamwork can help overcome various hurdles experienced in clinical settings, such as clashing perceptions, loss of autonomy, and lack of confidence in others’ decisions. These competencies foster open communication in the nursing workplace that minimizes errors in sharing electronic health record (EHR) information. Collaboration is a complex process in nursing. However, all nurses need to share patient information from their area of expertise.
