Answer preview
The origin of racial discrimination among blacks in the United States can be traced back to the early 17th century. This was the period when the American economy had begun to expand and grow rapidly; hence there was a high need for cheap labor. Most of the laborers in farms and industries, especially during the 18th century, were slaves who were mainly acquired from Africa. Even though the import of slaves was abolished in the 18th century, the number of enslaved people in the United States tripled by the mid-19th century (Bleich, Findling, Casey, Blendon, Benson, SteelFisher, & Miller, 2019). These African-Americans underwent severe racial, religious, social, political, and economic discrimination, which is still experienced now. Racial discrimination is a crucial and prominent matter in America among Blacks because it has significant effects on their well-being and health. Being one of the largest minority groups in the United States, the African Americans or the Blacks have a crucial role to play in matters of equity.
