Select two works of art; one from each movement.

In your paper,

  • Describe these two works of art by applying at least three questions art historians ask and four words art historians use.
  • Explain how iconographic, historical, political, philosophical, religious, and social factors of the movements are reflected in each work of art.
  • Include images of both works of art in an appendix at the end of your paper.
  • Your paper must be three to five pages in length, excluding the title and reference pages and images.

  1. Write an Introduction that states what your paper will be about.
  2. Start by discussing characteristics of each of the movements, their history, and other relevant aspects.
  3. Research and introduce the artists.
  4. Research the artworks. Use reliable sources to support your ideas. Reliable sources: textbook, museum databases, articles/books in the AU library.
  5. Discuss the artworks (apply the questions Art Historians ask, establish connections with the period and use proper ArtHistory terminology)
  6. Describe the artworks (apply the terms and establish connections with the artistic tendencies of the movements/periods)
  7. How can I compare them? Think about their similarities and differences (in terms of subjects, materials, techniques, concepts, ideas, etc.)
  8. Conclusion: What did you think about the movements? Which one was your favorite? What did you learn by writing this paper?
