How Recitatif Relates to the Discussions of Morrison, the “White Gaze,” and Sula
Answer preview
Recitatif is a short story where Toni Morrison narrates the story of Twyla and Roberta, two characters from different races. In her story, Morrison does not use racial codes to describe Twyla and Robert. Similarly, in Sula, the author does not inherently mention the racial identity of Sula and Nel, drawn together by circumstances. In both books, Morrison challenges the unconscious stereotypes of race that people have in society.
