The first war started in 1914 and ended in 1918, with Germany being the biggest loser. The battle was fought between alliances, namely triple entente, and triple alliance. The triple alliance was made of Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy while triple entente was made of Great Britain, Russia, and France. With the help of the US, triple entente won the war, and Germany was punished for causing the war. In the 1919 treaty of Versailles, Germany was ordered to pay the allies for the losses during the war, reduce her army to 100,000 people, creation of a demilitarized zone with France and returning the provinces of Alsace and Lorraine to France (Duiker, 2015).
