Answer previewThe problem Anselm has in this section is the lack of satisfaction and fulfillment. He says that even though he feels that he has found the Lord he has been searching for, his soul does not experience the joy and happiness. He also says that he does not feel the presence of the Lord around him and yet the Lord is omnipresent. He cannot even come near Him, as such his soul is still in its darkness and misery as the Lord’s light cannot penetrate it. The senses of his soul have become numb and unresponsive. Even though the soul smells, it does not sense the sweetness, neither can it see the Lord’s beauty or savor the taste. What his soul encounters are sorrow and grief. He generally feels that his soul is engulfed in nothingness. It is restless and does not know exactly what it desires as it is continuously searching for something.(323words)
