They both returned to Bethlehem where the great harvest of wheat and barley was being experienced (Ruth 1:19-22). Ruth went to harvest in the fields of a man known as Boaz who was very kind to her due to her connections with Naomi who happened to be a close relative of Boaz. Following the levirate marriage laws, it was accepted that a relative of the family should marry a deceased man’s wife in order to enhance the continuity of the family line. Following these laws, Boaz was allowed to marry Ruth. According to Ruth (4:13-17) after a while, the two of them bore a son whose name was Obed.
