Suggestion: look at other countries to see if they have implemented a cure)

Introduction

During the period of presidential campaigns, many people chant more about who they will vote for on election day.  But this is not the case; millions of US citizens do not turn up during election day, which has become a major barrier or threat to the American democracy. Studies have shown that approximately 40 percent of the eligible fail to vote during the presidential elections, a higher number compared with other countries like Australia, Brazil, and Belgium ( Krasa, & Polborn, 2009). Studies indicate that in 2016, around 60 percent of the total eligible voters actually voted in the presidential elections. This figure is far behind other countries like Australia, with a voter turnout of approximately 90 percent ( Krasa, & Polborn, 2009).  In the US, voting is enshrined in the constitution as a right and a privilege. There is no particular federal, local, or state level that requires US citizens to vote mandatory. However, the US constitution institutes that it is the civic duty for all US citizens from 18 years and above to vote, and no single citizen show be denied this right.  Although voting is a right and privilege in American, it derails democracy as most voters do not participate in their civic rights.
