Type 1 Diabetes mellitus occurs as a result of pancreas beta cells being attacked by the immune system and causing the deficiency of insulin in the body (Hall.Atkinson, Eisenbarth, & Michels, 2014).  Insulin plays a crucial role in the body by converting carbohydrates into glucose.  Therefore, lack of insulin in the body means that the cells absorb the low amount of glucose which is usually used in cell metabolism.  Hence, large amounts of glucose remain in the blood raising the blood sugar levels.
