Over the years many factors have changed concerning the family unit hence a there is a need to revise the definition of a family. According to Dinkha (2018), a family is a social unit that has at certain times shared a common residence, economic cooperation, and reproduction. It includes at least two parents of different sexes from who children were conceived through sexual interaction. It is essential to recognize non-traditional family structures because they perform the functions of a family and provide the needs and wants expected from the family unit.
