The victim precipitation theory illustrates how individual’s conducts or behaviors may contribute to their victimization. In this theory, victims may initiate actions knowingly or unknowingly thus making them participants of the crime (Tepper, et al., 2006). When a victim deliberately provokes an offender by using insulting words or attacking the criminal, such a person is identified as an active victim. On the other hand, when an individual unknowingly behaves in a way that provokes the criminal, such as a person is recognized as a passive victim.
