Homelessness is considered as a social crisis in most countries across the world and in particular the United States. People who lack a permanent, regular and adequate places to spend the night are regarded as homeless people. These people are forced to live in shelters, abandoned buildings or vehicles, on the streets, or in other forms of unstable situations (Brush et al 1046). The issues of homelessness is not a modern thing as most people would think. According to Wright and James (413), it surfaced as a national issue way back in the 1970s. During this period, almost all people who lacked permanent residence flocked urban cities like California and Texas to live in the streets. This was as a result of the issue of migration that was prevalent in that period. The release of the patients from the state psychiatric institutions also played a great role in this. The number of homeless people has since increased significantly. In the 1980s it was estimated that one out of 50 children in the United States were homeless. This brought the number of homeless people to 1.5 million. This trend continued until 2013 where the number almost doubled (Harris and Timothy, 342)(2074words)
