Answer preview
Over the past several decades, the police department has made efforts to attract more minority police officers. Minority police officers help in gaining and retaining confidence in the police department or force by the minority communities (Palmiotto, & Unnithan, 2010). The minority police officers were also struggling with challenges of discrimination from other police officers as well as the members of the society. The minority police officers faced discrimination in terms of promotion and under-representation. The police department has been a male and white-dominated profession. Currently, only 25 percent of the police officers make a department, and 15 percent are women.
