As mentioned in the introductory part of the paper, FAA considers runway incursions to be the most significant aviation safety issue. As such, it should be an issue of priority within the aviation industry. The FAA has issued a list that highlights the various categories of runway incursions that take place. Category A revolves around an incident where a collision was narrowly prevented, while Category B denotes an incident where the collision was about to take place, but the evasive or corrective action taken helped prevent this from happening (Werfelman, 2017). Category C incidents are those where there was sufficient distance or time to prevent the collision from occurring. Category D incidents are those where an immediate safety risk did not exist (Werfelman, 2017). Such incidents normally revolve around the presence of an unauthorized element within a runway or protected area.
