With the evolution of pop music, Collins has influenced several musicians and bands, including the Tom Tom Club, created in 1981. In one of their popular songs, “Genius Love,” this band recognizes Collins as an individual who raised the expectations of music. The other band that acknowledges Collins as an influence is the Fugees, a hip-hop group based in America that became popular in the mid90s. Another individual that Collins impacted is Michael Peter Balzary, popularly known as Flea. Flea is a bassist, musician, and actor of the Australian-American descent, who even appeared dressed in Collins’ style in the song’s video titled, “Dani California.” The other individual is Les Claypool, an American bassist, musician, bassist, and actor, who has been inspired musically by Collins.
Today, Collins’ legacy leaves on. In this sense, his legendary recognition as the godfather of funk music has made him receive honorary membership in various organizations such as the Little Kids Rock Program and Phi Beta Sigma. His philanthropic cannot be overlooked in these organizations, where Collins has enlightened stakeholders about music and donating instructional materials.
