While Amazon has taken measures to improve diversity at lower cadres, it would be counterproductive to neglect to institute inclusive measures at the top echelons of the company’s structure. Discourse on the corporate scene is always permeated with the essence of setting the correct tone at the top. Therefore, a company must demonstrate diversity in its powerful offices so that the values of diversity trickle down to the lower levels. After much struggle, Amazon recently passed a vote to improve diversity and inclusion in the company’s board that comprised seven white men and three white women (Florentine, 2018). The move is a powerful gesture of the company’s commitment to representing diverse populations, even at the top.
Inclusion in the workforce of corporate entities is no longer a debatable prospect. For this reason, companies like Amazon have strived to promote inclusion in their operations by allowing everyone to secure employment and career progression. While Amazon has had its fair share of shortcomings concerning the promotion of diversity at al cadres of work, recent years have witnessed more flexibility in taking all the steps necessary to make the entity more accommodating for everyone.
