Answer preview

A clear overview of how conclusions or findings were obtained

In a study conducted by Paulsen et al., (2018), the aim was exploring nurses’ experience in different settings, nursing home and home‐based care, when delivering bad news. The researchers obtained their findings by electronically distributing questionnaires to nurses providing long‐term care in Norway. To develop appropriate questions for data collection, the researchers applied semi-structured interviews with seven nursing home nurses and seven home-based cared nurses. Further, the authors used the SPSS Statistics Win 64 to analyze the nurses’ experience. Out of 399 nurses who responded to the research request, 197 offered services in nursing homes, while 202 respondents worked in home-based settings (Paulsen et al., 2018). The analyzed results revealed that relatives of patients in home-based care found it challenging to accept clinical reports of imminent death. Hence, the researchers concluded that families of patients in nursing homes learn to take in the devastating news and withhold from clinging to unrealistic hopes of medical interventions.
