Female Genital Mutilation

Senior seminar research paper

Students should submit a 20page essay summarizing their topic. The structure of the essay is flexibleHowever, the documentshould include front page with a title and abstract, an Introduction/motivation section (4 pages max) and a discussion/conclusionsection(12 pages).

TOTAL: 20 pages without the front page and the work cited page

Total: 22 pages with the front page and work cited page

key notes:

Don’t let the topic sound so general it is better to focus on the details, this is an international policy class, so i am more interested in hearing about what work is being done to solve this than to actually just hear about the problem, 20 pages is plenty!
MLA format
You won’t be evaluated based on whether you give a “right’’ or “wrong’’ answer to the question you posed, but on the quality of the arguments or discussion provided in your presentations and the essay. Most policy questions don’t really have a definite black/white answer, and it is your job as a professional to highlight the different shades of gray related to your topic.

use scholarly articles and very reliable sources for this, it is a seminar class, so it is all about doing good research and finding good sources. there is not limit on how many sources to use but since it is 20 pages i would assume 8 sources would be a min

Female Genital Mutilation

What is female genital mutilation and why is this practice dangerous and is still being performed to this day in developing countries? I provide data and information from scholarly articles and researches explaining FGM, providing the main reasons why it’s being performed, and how some NGOs and other organization are fighting it. FGM is not a procedure done for health benefits. It harms young females in a lot of different ways and it’s only damaging their bodies. It causes a lot of health risks both immediate and long term. Most countries that practice FGM are often motivated by beliefs about what is considered acceptable sexual behavior. The goal of it is to lower females’ sexual drive to guarantee premarital virginity. Due to the high health risks of this unnecessary painful procedure, many human rights organizations and NGOs are working on stopping FGM by spreading awareness and pushing for political support in establishing laws against this practice. There are also some organizations focusing on strengthening the health sector response to ensure there is medical care and counseling provided for girls and women who lived through this. I will be discussing all this in depth and how we can help eliminate FGM.

Female genital mutilation also termed as female circumcision, or the genital cutting has predominantly continued to exist in more than 28 countries in Africa and some part of Asia. The practice involves removal of the whole of the genital parts of the female specifically the clitoris has caused global concern.
