Instructions

For the first Assignment, you’ll be required to assess your own life within the framework provided by Goleman’s and Gilbert’s books. You’ll be assessing your ability to manage emotions and your emotional responses from a psychological perspective. Please prepare a 3 to 4 page paper (double spaced, APA format in style and referencing) addressing the following questions:

  • How do the skills comprising Emotional Intelligence that Goleman advocates, such as effective conflict resolution, impulse control and social skills, contribute to or detract from your own health and wellness? Support your response with a discussion that references the reading and includes applied examples from your own life.
  • Gilbert is interested in delineating the shortcomings of imagination. He claims that we’re far too accepting of the conclusions of our imaginations and discusses a number of psychological roadblocks to happiness. Summarize at least two of these roadblocks and discuss how they impact the ability to predict future happiness. Discuss how these concepts influence your own health and wellness. Support your response with a discussion that references the reading and includes applied examples from your own life.
  • Write a health and wellness prescription for yourself based on the concepts presented in these books addressing the following questions. What are you already doing in your life that these authors would support and agree with? What do you need to change? What is your plan for change? In this section, discuss at least two peer reviewed research articles to support your ideas.
