In industrialised countries, children spend more and more time interacting with computers and other electronic media. Which aspects of social development may be affected? What are some potential benefits of such technological changes? Reflect upon the role of technology (or lack thereof) in your own social development and how this may impact your perception of its role in today’s culture. The current teens have been spending much time on technology, either in social media or in online gaming among other areas. The extreme use of technology affects their social development because they do not have time to learn from role models in their identity formation period, share their personal problems with their peers and become addicted to online gaming, developing an addiction called online gaming disorder. On the other side, technology, mainly social media, can be used for educational purposes, benefiting the teens academically.
