As a hospital administrator, you receive a call from a colleague at another hospital. Your colleague, who is a friend, informs you that he has received a demand for a stipend from the ophthalmologists who take ED calls at his hospital, and they want a sizable raise. He asks you what you pay for that type of call and suggests that you could both benefit by coming up with a standard rate of pay over which neither of you will go in response to physician demands. It could save your hospitals $300,000 to do this. What is your response, and what is the rationale for it? please use the following as a resource
Legal and Ethical Issues for Health Professionals

Answer preview
In health care facilities, the risk of burnout occurs when the healthcare professionals are put under pressure to handle legal and ethical issues continually. Hospital administrators take ethical dilemmas daily (Pozgar, 2020). For instance, they are obligated to reduce the health care costs incurred by the hospital. This exerts pressure on healthcare professionals to put in more work for less pay. Limited resources force hospital administrators to compromise healthcare quality, resulting in the patient’s injury, making the hospital a target for lawsuits (Pozgar, 2020). In light of this, I would explain to the colleague that hospital policy dictates that stipends should be paid based on the workload and the intensity of the duty. Therefore, to optimize the ophthalmologists’ motivation standard, pay for my hospital will not be applicable for any other hospital due to the variability in duty intensity.
