The Bible looks at singleness as a gift from God, whereby individuals get a unique chance to devote themselves entirely to the service of God (1 Cor. 7:7). Jesus even regurgitated such sentiments in Matt. 19:11, when he stated, “it is good, for those to whom it has been given.” Paul also argued in 1 Corinthians 7 that singleness has its set of advantages. Even though marriage might bestow numerous blessings, Paul pointed out that there are many difficulties in marriages, which singlehood prevents people from experiencing. The cultural view of singleness is quite different from the Biblical one. Under the cultural perspective, single persons are free to do as they please since they are unattached or uncommitted (Darrington et al., 2015). Thus, they can sexually experiment by having multiple partners. This element of singlehood is absent under the biblical perspective of singleness, considering sex beyond the confines of marriage is prohibited.
