As a CIO, before the introduction of the business intelligence infrastructure, I would begin by defining what it is and how it can be used for the benefit of the business to every person in the organization. For this reason, I would propose first to have a relational data warehouse that is responsible for storing data that will feed the systems of BI. Use of Data Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) will help in moving data from the retail chain systems to the data warehouse.
