We all believe many, many things to be ‘true.’ Why? What is the evidence that we employ when we conclude that:
- ‘The biggest threat facing our nation is illegal immigration.’ Or,
- ‘A Lean Six Sigma program will improve our R&D performance.’ Or,
- ‘Only sales people with 10% annual growth should get bonuses.’
Here is a typical business-related statement: ‘Off-shore manufacturing is less expensive than domestic manufacturing.’ More important than whether you believe this statement to be ‘true’ or ‘false’ are the reasons ‘why’ you believe it to be true or false. For this discussion answer the following two questions:
- Is this a true statement?
- Why do you think so?Remember, use concepts(in the files) from this week’s material to inform your comments.

The statement that ‘off-shore manufacturing is less expensive than domestic manufacturing’ is true. I think that the statement is true because there is evidence. That is, many international corporations are willing to take their production processes abroad to reduce the cost of production. I trust this evidence because there is so much information about offshore manufacturing that satisfies most pyramid of evidence levels. Pyramid of evidence helps to determine whether evidence is credible by assessing the truth about the evidence through expert opinions, case studies, longitudinal studies, correlational studies, or systematic review levels (Boyd, 2020). In this case, studies have shown that offshoring is cheaper than local manufacturing. It is because locating a manufacturing plant in a foreign country where raw materials are would save company expenses by eliminating importation costs. A company may also save money by relocating a manufacturing plant in a country where labor is cheap.
