There are many factors to consider when undertaking staffing and scheduling activities in a healthcare organization. I do not think that the differing opinions about scheduling will result in a scheduling nightmare. With the appropriate strategies, it is possible to navigate them and find an amicable solution (Marquis & Huston, 2017). Before implementing a mandatory 12-hour shift, I would implement other alternatives like bidding for the long shifts. The nurses who bid for these shifts would also enjoy the benefits that come with them, like longer breaks at home between 12-hour shifts. The bidding process would automatically limit the number of people who would take these shifts each week.
