1) As CEO of a leading pharmaceutical firm, how do you respond to Dr. Margaret Chan’s (Director-General of the WHO) statements that the pharmaceutical industry is primarily “profit-driven” and had failed to invest in the development of a vaccine or cure for Ebola?

2) You are a shareholder of a pharmaceutical firm that announced its new investment to develop an Ebola vaccine and that as a result, your dividend would be reduced, would you support or not support the firm’s decision to spend your money to combat Ebola? Explain your answer.

3) Take the role of a US government official. What would be your recommendations to incentivize pharmaceutical firms to develop an Ebola vaccine?

Ethics are a broad issue that cuts across our societies and in most cases tends to conflict with individual beliefs, expectations or ideas that they subscribe to. In most cases, it is always questioned on whether something is morally right or wrong and whether it should be done. Depending on the issue at hand ethics has always become a major issue and coming up with a solution out of the issue sets the grounds on how such issues can be dealt with in the future. Some of the ethical issues in the world of include whether the medicine should be a profitable venture, whether it is ethically right to donate blood and on whether mercy killing is ethical. Unfortunately, these are issues that we cannot run away from in our modern and contemporary societies as they affect us on a daily basis.(1289words)
