For many businesses, marketing and advertising is central to market leadership and an increase in revenue. As such, companies design their ads in ways they believe will attract and retain potential and existing customers. Among the strategies used is the utilization of messages that have subtle or overtly sexual or violent content. A fashion advertisement by Dolce & Gabbana in Esquire was taken down after a public outrage claiming that it promoted gang rape by its heavy sexual and violent imagery.
