Child abuse and neglect are major concerns as they impact the child’s well-being and development. Children that directly experience violence or witness violence may have behavioral, social, and emotional problems (Miller-Perrin, Perrin, and Renzetti, 2021). In Kevin’s case, he is being physically abused by his mother’s boyfriend. This could indicate his change in behavior, such as being aggressive, hostile, and disobedient towards his mother. It has also impacted his cognitive and attitudinal ability, as indicated through his performance, where he has trouble with school reading and often fails to do his homework. Kevin also appears to be traumatized from an experience where he thought he would drown. Sam physically abuses Kevin, which has impacted his behavior, and the child’s health. Kevin’s foster mother may have a different opinion of Kevin than his mother as she provides a safe environment for Kevin; hence his behavior may have changed.
