Communication
Intercultural communication and interaction.
Choose a place like a Starbucks Coffee Shop, Small Cafe, or other public place like a retail store. Take note as to whether or not the customers interact with one another and special note of how the workers interact with the customers.
Off Campus Observations
Time: 30 minutes or more Location: Off Campus
This observation should be done somewhere other than on campus. Try to choose a place where people from different cultures and ethnic backgrounds gather and interact. You are observing to see how they engage in intercultural communication and interaction. You are looking to see if certain ethnic or cultural groups tend to sit and interact together, are there people of different cultures or ethnic backgrounds sitting near one another but not interacting to communicating.
Conducting an effective observation requires the special skill of paying close attention to details. Unlike interviewing people, much of data gained through observation is subjected to your preconceived beliefs or ideas. Below are a few steps for conducting an observation:
Select a site to be observed. Try to stay in the back ground. Unless you have obtained permission to observe a particular person or group, try not to make it obvious you are observing a particular group or person.
Design an observation protocol as a method for recording notes. Include descriptive and reflective notes (for examples: note about their relationships, hunches, and experiences.)
Social Networks
Choose “one” of the following topics:
Industrial Control Systems (ICS) /SCADA systems
Cloud Computing
Social Networks
Mobile Computing
For that topic, list significant cybersecurity vulnerabilities and associated threats that would have the highest impact on service or users. For each vulnerability/threat combination, discuss why the probability of an occurrence is either high-medium-or low. For each combination, describe the policies and procedures that can most effectively manage that estimated level of risk. How is customer satisfaction affected by implementing each policy and procedure? Provide supporting examples from outside articles and literature.
Prepare your paper to the following format:
A single Word Document 5-7 pages (font size – Times New Roman 12)
Social Network Sites
What’s this article about? What are the main points (pick 3-5)?
What are the implication(s) of the articles findings?
What are some connections we can make to our own experience/reality (essentially, why does
this matter and why should we care about this research if we can’t apply it in some meaningful
ways).
Communication transaction

Describe the situation or circumstance.
Explain the message that you believe the sender was trying to communicate or did communicate.
Describe your listening behavior/feedback; note verbal and nonverbal aspects that comprised your feedback.
Describe the outcome in terms of the success or lack therof of the communication transaction. Did the way that you listened influence the outcome?
Cite points of information or conclusions drawn from 3 of the readings or TED Talks.
Elements of nonverbal behaviors
Read the articles and identify any 3 elements of nonverbal behaviors that you exhibit as you communicate messages in the workplace or classroom settings. (May be elements of posture, movement, eye contact, facial expression) Based on the information in the articles, do these behaviors enhance or detract from your messages? Explain how.
